Lot Essay

Bui Xuan Phai has penned this in his own journal, "Each new year means another year aged. As for the soul ? Picasso said an interesting thing. It takes so long in order to be young". The words take on a sense of poignancy when it is read with the image of Phai's naive drawings of the cat in mind.
