The sharply tapering body painted on the shoulder with black lozenge- shaped medallions decorated with three unpainted circles, connected by dark red bands and cross-hatched lines, the scalloped border below interrupted by a pair of lug handles, the neck painted with double serrated bands

Lot Essay

A jar with a similar pattern of lozenge-shaped medallions incorporating unpainted circles against a black ground, excavated from Gansu, Shengguang, Hexian, in 1973, is illustrated in Zhongguo Caitao Tupu, 1990, no. 527.
