A Celadon-Glazed Barrel-Shaped Jar
Qianlong seal mark in underglaze blue and of the period (1736-1795)
The ovoid jar applied with two lion-mask and fixed-ring handles between two rows of twenty-two bosses around the shoulder and above the foot, covered with a soft green glaze of even tone continuing over the flat rim and stopping at the unglazed ring encircling the countersunk base

Lot Essay

A pair of Qianlong jars of this form, exhibited in Singapore in 1979, is illustrated in Chinese Celadons and Other Related Wares in Southeast Asia, pl. 224, nos. 271 and 272. One with a Yongzheng mark was included in the Exhibition of Ch'ing Porcelain from the Wah Kwong Collection, Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1973, no. 18.
