c.1966 ALFA ROMEO DUETTO 1600 SPYDER
Registration No. WRP 55H
Chassis No. 10503.AR7-10274
Engine No.
Light blue with red vinyl interior.
Engine: four cylinder in-line, 1,570cc, 109bhp at 6,000rpm; Gearbox: five speed manual; Brakes: four wheel disc; Suspension: front, helical springs, transverse links of unequal length A bar, rear, helical springs, upper triangle and struts. Right hand drive.
The new Alfa Romeo roadster was presented at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show. The car was characterised by its charming Pininfarina body with the deep concave mouldings on the sides. The Duetto achieved film star status when it was driven by Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate.
The Duetto, with lower centre of gravity, open cockpit and interesting hoodline had a sporty driving feel. Weatherproofing was significantly improved and the heater and defroster outputs were also excellent.
This motor car was imported from South Africa and has covered less than 28,000 miles. Its hood was replaced in 1992 and a new gearbox, starter and dynamo were fitted the year before. There is a current MoT and the present lady owner who is moving abroad says that the buyer "will be getting a lovely car." Having spent many years in a dry climate this Duetto is remarkably sound on the bodywork and has benefitted from being waxoiled.
