Jaguar launched their new medium-sized body in 1956 with a 2.4-litre engine and this was to be the starting off point in the development of the more recent Jaguars. The 2.4 became very popular and before long both 3.4 and 3.8-litre versions were available. The S-Type was a longer version that came with independent rear suspension. It seemed to answer the need for something better than the standard Mark II.

It was given a redesigned grille, thinner bumpers, hooded headlights and fully integrated indicators which made the front look smoother. The rear was given a larger boot for more luggage space.

This Jaguar was partially restored in 1980, but in 1993 the bodywork was totally restored and it is now finished in Old English White. The carpets are in good condition and it is believed the trim was renewed in 1980. The chromework is in excellent condition, the wire wheels have new tyres and the car has driven roughly 90,000 miles.
