Not only is it rare to find a Junyao bowl with its cover, it is even more rare to find such a set covered with a green glaze, and no other example appears to have been published. A Junyao bowl and cover of similar proportions, but of smaller size and covered with the more usual pale blue glaze, is illustrated in Born of Earth and Fire: Chinese Ceramics from the Scheinman Collection, Baltimore, 1992, no. 55 and was later sold in these rooms, 23 March 1995, lot 86.

The Falk bowl and cover appears to be one of the very few examples of incontestable pairing, as both are matched by identical glaze and unusually large size, and the fact that the underside of the rim of the dish was left unglazed confirms its use as a cover for the bowl.
