The inscription on the base, Di dai guan guang lu si chu cheng Shen Liang zuo zao, may be translated as 'Shen Liang, presiding official of Guang Lu Temple, Office of the Primary Attendant, commissioned [this dish].' The stylized lu character on the interior puns the name of the temple (Guang Lu), and may mean 'happiness and prosperity' as well as 'gift'.
