Further details
D'Entrecasteaux's voyage sailed with instructions to determine what had happened to the exporer La Pérouse and his highly regarded and well equipped expedition, which left France for the Pacific in 1785. Jacques Labillardière, the naturalist on the voyage discovered new botanical species [pl.13] and was responsible for Europe's first large image of the Black Swan [pl.9] seen here.
