An Account of an Embassy to the Court of the Teshoo Lama, in Tibet; containing A Narrative of a Journey through Bootan, and part of Tibet, London: by W. Bulmer and Co for G. W. Nicol, 1800. 4° (28.5 x 23cm.), folding engraved map, 12 plates and one double-page plate of Tibetan characters (some spotting and browning throughout, title with two series of library serial numbers in black ink, some offsetting, front free endpaper partially detached), later blue cloth, spine gilt (rubbed, library numbers on attached paper at head and tail of spine).
FIRST EDITION of the first account of Tibet written by an Englishman until Bogle and Manning's narratives were published seventy-five years later.
Together with four other works in four volumes comprising William Rice's Tiger-Shooting in India (London, 1857), Valentine Blacker's Memoir of the Operations of the British Army in India during the Mahratta War (London, 1821), William Francklin's The History of the Region of Shah-Aulum (London, 1798), and The Honourable Mountstuart Elphinstone's Report on the Territories conquered from the Paishma (Calcutta, 1821).
