VAT rate of 5% is payable on hammer price plus bu… Read more Nicholl was born in Belfast and having studied in London settled in Dublin becoming a full member of the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1860. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1832 to 1854. In 1849 he was sent to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) by the government to teach painting and drawing at the Colombo Academy. Whilst there he was employed by Sir James Emerson Tennent, the Colonial Secretary, to make drawings and watercolours of the scenery of Ceylon.
