An antique diamond and emerald tiara
Comprising seven graduated cushion-cut diamond flowerheads with square-cut emerald and diamond cluster connections suspended from diamond collet lines, the central flowerhead with an emerald and diamond quatrefoil cluster surmount, with fleur-de-lis garlands to the base, mounted in silver and gold, later rhodium plated, circa 1890, 15.0cm. wide
Provenance
The tiara was inherited by Lady Rowena Traherne from her mother for whom it was made on the instructions of the Marquis of Ailesbury, her father. He was also the 10th Earl of Cardigan. It was the 7th Earl of Cardigan who led the charge of the Light Brigade at Balaclava during the Crimean War.
