FIRST EDITION. A fascinating work documenting Sparrmans travels to the Cape Colony where he initially became tutor to the children of the deputy governor. In 1772 when Cook called in to Cape Town he sailed with the Resolution for the Pacific, returning in 1775. His expedition into the interior in 1776 gives an interesting and accurate insight into the Cape Colony during this period. Mendelssohn II, p.414. (2)
