Travels of Ali Bey in Morocco, Tripoli, Cyprus, Egypt, Arabia, Syria, and Turkey, between the years 1803 and 1807, London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1816. 2 volumes, 4° (27 x 21.5cm.), engraved portrait, 4 folding maps and 84 (of 86) engraved plates (lacking 2 plates, half-titles, a few preliminaries and explanation of plates at the beginning of volume I, maps torn with losses, portrait and title laid down in volume I, a few leaves with short tears, occasional spotting and browning), later cloth-backed boards (edges damaged and rubbed). FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. The original edition was in French and published in Paris in 1814. The author was a Spanish traveller, who, disguised as an Arab, gained access to many locations in Asia Minor and North Africa forbidden to Christians. Blackmer 62; Palau 21683. (2)
