The example offered is from the first series of production, c.1928. Examples manufactured subsequently in the 1930s featured a switch to the circular platform. Oud met Theo van Doesburg and Gerrit Rietveld in 1915, and joined with them in developing the De Stijl movement. In 1918 Oud was appointed Rotterdam City Architect, and in 1927 designed strictly geometric housing for the 1927 Weissenhof housing exhibition in Stuttgart. This design, of simple rectilinear form and constructed from six basic geometric components, is widely recognised as a benchmark of early modernism.
