No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VA… 顯示更多 GEORGE ALBERT HEDLEY George Albert Hedley was an aggresive and robust centre-forward, he was born in Middlesborough on 20th July 1976. His playing career began with South Bank F.C., his local side in Middlesborough, before moving to Sheffield United in 1897 as an amateur he turned professional with the Sheffield side the season later and in his first full season as a professional helped Sheffield United win their first and his first F.A.Cup final, (which the following lot relates). He played in two further F.A.Cup finals with Sheffield United in 1901 and 1902. In the 1901 F.A.Cup final United were defeated by Tottenham Hotspur after a reply 3-1. In the following season's F.A.Cup final United took on Southampton and once again the final went to a reply which United won 2-1, Headly scoring the opening United goal. In 1903 he was transferred to Southampton and played with the south coast side for three seasons before transferring to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1906. In the 1907-08 season he once again played in a F.A.Cup final this time his Wolves side defeated Newcastle United 3-1, Hedley scoring 1 goal (see lot 16). He retired from football in 1913 and took up the post as Bristol City manager until the outbreak of the First World War. He made one full International appearance for his country in 1901 against Ireland and one Football League appearance aganist the Scottish League (see lot 17)
