Terence Gilbert is a renowned sporting artist, in 1999 he executed a series of three oil paintings: 'A Classic Strike', A Goal Of Genius' and 'Last Gasp Glory', too celebrate Manchester United's treble-winning season. The paintings depict important goals scored by United in the Premier League Championship, The F.A.Cup and The UEFA Champions League final
'A Classic Strike'. In the final game of the domestic season United needed a win against Spurs to secure the Premiership. At 1-0 down Gilbert has captured David Beckham, in familiar pose have struck a typically dashing shot which beat Ian Walker and hauled United back into the game they went on to win and with it the Championship.
'A Goal of Genius'. In one of the greatest ever cup ties, United played Arsenal in the F.A.Cup semi-final replay at Villa Park. In extra time of a match full of passion and incendent, and with his team down to ten men, Giggs picked up a loose ball in his own half. With breathtaking skill he set off on a run which saw him dribble past the whole of the much lauded Arsenal defence. Gilbert has portrayed Giggs at the end of his run having just hit his shot high past David Seaman. This goal of genius, one of the best indiviual goals of all time, saw United into the final which they duly won, to secure the second phase of the Treble.
'Last Gasp Glory'. In the very last game of this amazing season United were matched with Germany's mighty Bayern Munich in Barcelona's Nou Camp stadium for the biggest prize of all, the European Champions League. This trophy had become the Holy Grail for United. No one will ever forget this match in which United were behind from the sixth minute to the last, when Teddy Sheringham equalised. Unbelievably and famously, United then stole victory with a second goal in injury time. Gilbert has caught this truly remarkable moment as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clinched for United the Champions League Trophy, and completed the historic Treble.
