The banqueting hall seat has hermed legs evoking the Roman 'altar' popularised by C.H. Tatham's Etchings of Ancient Ornamental Architecture, London, 1799 (p. 46), while its Grecian palm-flowered pediment and acrotia and frieze of libation-plates or paterae reflect the robust George IV antique style promoted by Henry Whitaker's Designs of Cabinet and Upholstery Furniture in the Most Modern Style, 1825.
