A French gilt and patinated bronze striking mantel clock, second quarter 19th century
The naturalistic case modelled as a tree stump cast with vine leaves and grapes, flanked by Hercules wearing a lion pelt and cradling an infant, his club to one side, the dial with Roman chapter ring with painted numerals and engine-turned centre, blued steel moon hands, the twin barrel movement with silk suspension and countwheel strike on bell -- 18½in. (47cm.) high
