A George III mahogany longcase clock, circa 1774
The case with breakarch hood topped by giltwood ball and spire finials, glazed side panels, flanked by outset brass stop-fluted columns, the flame-veneered breakarch trunk door within a moulded frame, with panel to the shortened plinth with wavy skirting, the 11½in. brass dial with foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, the matted centre with recessed silvered seconds dial and box date aperture, signed on a silvered plaque Jno. Walker/1774, later blued steel hands, the arch with painted ship rocking with the pendulum, within a silvered slip inscribed THE BEVERLY, the five pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement, with later seatboard -- 90½in. (230cm.) high
