Lot Essay
The inscription panel reads: Farmayesh-e navab ashraf wala mu'tamed al-dawla (Commisioned by His Excellency the most noble, the exalted, Mutamid al-Dawla, may his...be eternal) It is most likely that the patron was Farhad Mirza, the son of 'Abbas Mirza, who died in 1305/1887-8 AD. Amongst a number of other appointments, in 1284/1867-8, he was appointed Govenor of Kurdistan; it is probably whilst he held this post that the present rug was woven.
