The shaded tomato-red field scattered with small clouds and flying cranes around a central pagoda, perching cranes and angular trees in each corner, in a shaded medium blue border with cranes with raised wings forming circles together with floral sprays, good condition

Lot Essay

The Manchurian crane, the white bird with red crest seen here, is a companion of Taoist Immortals and therefore a symbol of longevity (Lorenz, H.A.: A View of Chinese Rugs from the Seventeenth to the Twentieth Century, London and Boston, 1972, p.51 and fig.20) .
