Lot Essay

Among the numerous Ghiordes prayer rugs this one stands out, principally due the the strength of the border. Many other Ghiordes prayer rugs have a related border (see for example lot 114 in the sale preceeding this), but the flowers are usually very densely packed and, as often as not, inverted, virtually becoming an overall design. Here the weaver has even highlighted the individuality of the flowers, with the minor details alternating in colour, making the lower central spray with a central white bloom and the upper central example all white.
