A NASRID POTTERY BORDER TILE
From the Alhambra, Granada, South Spain, 14th/15th century
Of rectangular form, with moulded raised ribs dividing the colours, the main register with a reciprocal off-white and manganese design of stepped crenellations, a plain green band above, slight chipping to extremities
3½ x 5½in. (9 x 13.7cm.)

Lot Essay

Another tile from the same border, catalogued as being from the Cerro del Sol in the Alhambra, was published Schätze der Alhambra, Islamische Kunst aus Anatolien, Berlin exhibition catalogue, publ. Milan, 1995, no.118.
