A LATE TIMURID OR EARLY SAFAVID TINNED COPPER BOWL
Probably Khorassan or Herat, late 15th or early 16th century
Of shallow rounded form with triangular section rim on flat base, the sides finely engraved with a bold band of strapwork forming cartouches filled with interlaced arabesques alternating with roundels containing elaborate lotus flowers both on a cross-hatched ground, the interstices filled with lozenge motifs, a broad band above with a continuous inscription with similar cross-hatched ground, a band below of powerful meandering flowering vine, rope-motif around the exterior of the rim, an owner's name on the top of the rim, tinning mostly gone, otherwise good condition
