A GEORGE III SILVER SOUP TUREEN, COVER AND STAND

Circular, the tureen with a narrow frieze of vertical fluting below a gadroon rim, applied with two reeded handles with lion mask terminals, raised on a circular pedestal foot, the convex domed cover with bead surround and entwined snake handle, the conforming stand with gadrooned rim and acanthus leaf and scroll handles, the tureen engraved with a coat-of-arms, crest and motto against a background of military trophies, and on the other side with a later coat-of-arms, crest and motto, the cover engraved with the former arms on one side, and on the other with the cypher GR within a garter and motto, marked under cover, tureen and stand and on handle
The stand 20½in. (52.1cm.) long; 272oz. 10dwt. (8480gr.)
