Professor Werner Sumowski has revised the above published attribution of the present picture and plans to include it in the forthcoming sixth volume of his Gemälde der Rembrandt-Schüler as, very plausibly, the work of Samuel van Hoogstraten. Sumowski, loc. cit., argues in his published entry for the picture, that the sitter might be identified with Herman Dullaert by comparison with Philips Koninck's portrait of Dullaert (ibid., III, Landau, 1983, p.1541, no.1029, illustrated in colour p.1579)
