A FRENCH CENTREPIECE
maker's mark of Christofle, Paris, 1866

On four openwork cast foliage and scroll feet, the circular base applied with a cast model bull, ram, ewe, plough, scythe and agricultural produce, with foliage and scroll stem and shallow circular bowl chased with four scenes of agricultural labour entitled LABOURAGE, PASTURAGE, MOISSON AND VENDAGE, surmounted by the figure of Plenty holding a cornucopia and laurel wreath on a drum-shaped plinth applied with the Imperial eagle, the border of the bowl and the base of the plinth with inscriptions, marked on base, the base engraved 'CHRISTOFLE FT 1866' - 26in. (66cm.) high

The inscriptions reads 'MINISTERE D'AGRICULTURE DU COMMERCE ET TRAVAUX PUBLICS MDCCCLXVI' and 'CONCOURS REGIONAL AGRICOLE D'AVIGNON'
