A PAIR OF VICTORIAN SILVER-GILT MOUNTED CUT-GLASS CLARET JUGS AND A PAIR OF MATCHING BEAKERS
maker's mark of Walter and John Barnard, London, 1878

Each of cylindrical form and with foliate chased mounts, the jugs each with scroll handle, hinged domed cover and fluted thumbpiece, the neck mount chased with military badges, engraved with crests and presentation inscriptions, marked on bases, mounts and covers - 11¼in. (29cm.) and 5½in. (14cm.) high

The crests and badges are those of the Inniskilling Dragoons, 3rd Dragoon Guards and Cavalry Depot.
The inscription reads 'COMPOSED OF THE LACE WORN BY MAJOR-GENERAL CONYERS TOWER, C.B. DURING 34 YEARS SERVICE IN THE ARMY, 1878'
