maker's mark probably that of Reilly and Storer overstruck by that of Reid and Sons of Newcastle, London, 1850

Vase-shaped and on shaped-circular spreading foot, with scroll handle, hinged domed cover and detachable fluted finial, engraved overall with flower sprays, foliate scrolls, inscriptions and crest, marked on body, cover and finial, the foot stamped REID AND SONS NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE AND REID AND SONS FECERUNT - 14½in. (37cm.) high

The incriptions read 'Exhibited at the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park 1851' and Presented to Fredk Wm REMNANT by his sincere Friend Charlotte Annan
