A GEORGE III SILVER TWO BRANCH EPERGNE
maker's mark of William Holmes, London, 1790

Of oval form and on on spreading partly-fluted base, pierced with a band of wave ornament and on four stylised oak leaf and acorn feet, the open work frame on four leaf-capped reeded legs with rams' mask terminals and two detachable reeded scroll branches, the branches and frame each terminating in pierced oval basket with rams' masks and drop ring handles, the base engraved with a coat-of-arms within foliate cartouche, fully marked, the baskets each with cut-glass liner - 16¼in. (41cm.) high

The arms are those of Porter, co. Lincoln and co. Kent, impaling Carr or Carre
