A SET OF FOUR GEORGE III SILVER CANDLESTICKS
maker's mark of Daniel Smith and Robert Sharp overstriking another, Sheffield, three 1785, one 1786
Each on spreading square base and with fluted tapering stem, vase-shaped socket and detachable circular nozzle, stamped with bands of rossettes and husk swags, engraved with a crest beneath an Earl's coronet, marked on bases and nozzles - 12in. (30.5cm.) high
The crest is that of Kennedy probably for David, 10th Earl of Cassillis (d.1792), M.P. for Ayrshire 1768-1774. He succeeded his brother to the Earldom in 1775 and became a representative Peer for Scotland from 1779 until 1790. (4)
