A NORTH EUROPEAN GOLD-ENCRUSTED SMALL-SWORD with associated rapier blade (now blued) of hexagonal section stamped 'Francisco' within the short fuller at the forte on one side and 'Rviz en Toledo' on the other (both inscriptions now gilt), the russet iron hilt comprising double shell-guard, knuckle-guard with large arms, later silver-gilt wire grip and 'turk's head' finials, and ovoidal pommel, the encrusted decoration comprising human masks amid elaborate foliated scrollwork, circa 1720
