AN UNUSUAL FLINTLOCK COACHING CARBINE with lightly belled iron barrel (pitted) retaining traces of an inscription around the flat of the muzzle, silver spider fore-sight, grooved tang cut with rococo decoration on a punched ground, rounded border engraved lock engraved with rococo scrollwork and signed on a ribbon (steel-spring replaced), figured walnut full stock (fore-end replaced) carved in relief with a shell behind the barrel tang, brass mounts including butt-plate cast and chased with rococo decoration in relief, and vacant trophy of arms escutcheon, brass ramrod-pipes, and whalebone ramrod, by Hicklin, circa 1765
