SAYER, Robert. Ruins of Athens, with remains and other valuable antiquities in Greece. London: for Robert Sayer, 1759.
2° (535 x 370mm). Engraved frontispiece and views and elevations by Sayer after Le Roy. (Light offsetting of frontispiece onto title.) Original boards (spine worn and corners bumped).
Although this work is a direct copy of Le Roy's work published the previous year, Sayer in his introduction, whilst acknowledging the work of Le Roy, goes on to say that the Public would have wanted this work less, had Le Roy published his work in English, returning the compliment that Wood made in publishing his works on Palmyra and Balbec in French. Berlin Katalog does not include this edition but notes a later issue of Sayer's work in Latin, with text by Killian published in Augsburg in 1764.
