13 parts in 1 volume, 2° (335 x 215mm). Title printed in red and black (some tears to outer margin), 13 section titles with woodcut armorial borders, 23 woodcut maps, including 8 full-page and 5 double-page, numerous woodcut illustrations of town views, historical events, portrait medallions, animals and coats of arms, some coloured in a later hand. (Marginal tears to O4, Ll2 and Vv6, not affecting text, tear to lower margin of HHh4 affecting 8 lines of text, without loss, some leaves with old dampstains in lower margin.) Contemporary blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, spine in six compartments with raised bands, a paper label in the first (lacking metal clasps and small section of lower outer corner of front cover, a little soiled). Provenance: Hanns Jacob Löuw of Zrich (signature dated 1608, marginal annotations).

Second edition of Stumpff's survey, which concentrates mainly on Switzerland but includes a general description of Europe (Part I), Germany (Part II) and France (Part III). The five double-page maps are of Europe, Germany, France, Switzerland and Eydgnoschaft. The first edition of this work was published by Froschouer in 1548, and the woodcuts were used both for the present edition and for a third edition in 1606. This edition not in Adams or Nordenskiöld Collection; Lonchamp 2819 (note); cf. Brunet V, 572 (1548 edition).
