2 ° (546 x 380mm). 3 full-page engraved illustrations of inscriptions, one large folding panorama (on three joined sheets, some old dampstains, two repaired tears), 56 engraved plans and plates. (Occasional light spotting or soiling.) Near-contemporary diced russia, covers with thin border of a single filet and dog-tooth roll enclosing an insect roll, spine gilt (joints weak, spine chipped, extremities rubbed). Provenance: Clements (pencil signature on front blank).

FIRST EDITION. Wood accompanied by John Bouverie, James Dawkins and Giovanni Borra set off in 1750 to Syria eventually reaching the ruins of Palmyra and Balbec in 1751. The plates were engraved by P. Foudrinier, T. Muller and T. Major from drawings by Borra. Fowler 443; Berlin Kat. 1884.
