[RYTHER, Augustine and Cornelis II DANCKERTS] (1603-1656). The Cittie of London. [London: circa 1645].

Engraved broadsheet map of London, 360 x 445mm, with letterpress descriptive borders on four sheets entitled 'The Countrey-mans or Strangers ready helpe, in his finding of our streets, Lanes, or Places in London', extending the dimensions to 520 x 750mm. (Some light creasing along folds).

The second issue, but the first printing in London of Danckerts plan of the cittie of London. The issue is particularly interesting with the addition of the English descriptive text, which is probably modelled on the issue of Norden's map of London in 1623 which included 'a guide for Cuntrey men' (Howgego 5.2), and together they form some of the earliest map guides to London. Howgego 9 (2) records only 2 copies, B.M. and G.L.C. Not in Wing, The B.M. catalogue records a date of circa 1640 for their copy. .
