Bevan spent the summers of 1905 and 1906 at a farmhouse at Kingston, near Lewes in the South Downs
Rhoda, Mrs. Dudley Samuel, purchased the majority of the collection she amassed with her husband during the 1940s and 50s. Lots 59 and 65 in the present sale were purchased from the sale of Sir Louis Fergusson's collection in 1948, which included important works by artists from the Camden Town Group. A connoisseur with a keen eye, she was also an artist who exhibited 11 works at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition between 1954 and 1970
