Lamb served in the Second World War as an official War artist. In October 1941 he met the Canadian High Commissioner, Vincent Massey and painted a series of portraits of Canadians serving in England. Alongside these portraits Lamb painted a number of genre studies in oil and watercolour of servicemen at work and at play
