Lot Essay

This small ormolu-mounted occasional table was almost certainly made by Jean-Pierre-Alexandre Tahan (d.1892), son of Pierre-Lambert Tahan (d.1844) of Rue de la Paix, Paris. His workshop supplied high quality pieces during the mid-1800s, exhibiting at all Paris expositions between 1849 and 1867. This Louis XVI style piece with flower and trellis parquetry and ormolu mounts of floral festoons is in the 'antique' manner, echoing the work of the French ébeniste Jean-Henri Riesener (maître-ébéniste 1768-1806), produced in the last quarter of the 18th Century.
