Lot Essay

A similar Louis XVI giltwood suite was sold by Christie's New York, 15 October 1988 (lot 134), with fine disengaged colonettes and châpeau-de-gendarme cresting. The New York suite, however, lacked any ribbon-tied carving on the top rail.
