Lot Essay

Vincenzo Gemito was born in Naples in 1852. Spending a number of years in France, he exhibited at the Salon from 1879 up until the end of the century, winning various medals. Gemito's work was very highly regarded in France and was characterised by it's grace, delicacy and simplicity devoid of vulgarity.
