Lot Essay

This figure of a Renaissance man is typical of the work of A.E. Carrier-Belleuse (d.1887), who made many models of period figures in period clothes. He was one of France's most prolific and versatile sculptors of the nineteenth century who worked in a selection of mediums including porcelain, terracotta and bronze.
