Lot Essay

The present figure entitled Jeune Pêcheur à la coquille was originally executed in plaster in 1857 and sent to the Salon the following year. A bronze cast was exhibited at the Salon in 1859 and a marble version in 1863. The net draped over the boy's leg was a later addition, being added by Carpeaux in 1872.
