Lot Essay

From 1807 onwards, busts of Napoleon after the celebrated models by Canova (d.1822) and Chaudet (d.1810) were produced in Carrara and sold in Elisa's shop in Paris at 9 Boulevard des Italiens. Chaudet's bust was regarded as a better likeness than Canova's and was much in demand.
