Lot Essay

Piò Fedi (1816-1892) was originally apprenticed to a jeweller in Florence and later worked for a copperplate engraver in Vienna. On his return to Florence he studied sculpture. He exhibited in Rome and established a reputation for his religious statuary. He also sculpted neo-classical and genre figures such as The Rape of Policene and The Florentine.
