In its brass-mounted oak and leather case

Purdey records confirm that the rifle was completed circa 1891 as a light .400
Charges for the rifle were as follows:-

Powder - 3½ drams Curtiss & Harvey's No. 6
Wadding - thin card and cloth
Bullet - hollow, papered and lubricated
Case - .450/.400 solid drawn 3in.

The condition of the rifle is exceptional for its age
Loading dies and a quantity of cartridge cases for this calibre will be made available to the buyer of the lot
