A pattern for a 'Gothic' chair with fretted legs and rails was published by Thomas Chippendale in his Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, 1762, pl. XXV. A parlour chair with similar fretted feet with oval-medallion tablet at the Old Hall, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire is illustrated J.
