Lot Essay

In 1840 Robert Jupe left the partnership of Johnstone, Jupe and Co. and set up on his own in Welbeck Street. The survivors of the firm continued as Johnstone Jennes and Co. Jupe himself was the patentee of the 'Capstan' circular extending dining-table (see: F. Collard, Regency Furniture, Woodbridge, 1985, p. 24).
