Lot Essay

The Grecian figure with crossed arms appears to have been much used by William Bullock. A pair of figure candelabra with his characteristic mask-mounted triangular plinths was illustrated in the exhibition Country House Lighting 1660-1890, Leeds, Temple Newsam House, 1991, p. 144, no. 119. Another similar pair was sold from the collection of the late Gary L. Carlisle, Christie's New York, 14 October 1989, lot 37
